[Featured Artists]
Painter: Akiko Nakayama
AKIKO NAKAYAMA is a painter who brings pictures to life by combining the energy of movement and the vibrancy of colors to make various materials react with each other. Characterized by their strong performative elements, her paintings, such as her “Alive Painting” series, which involves constant metamorphosis, and her “Still Life” series, which visualizes and solidifies the process of filtering the resulting waste liquid, are constantly being created. The works, in which various mediums and colors are blended together in a lively, ever-changing manner, resemble improvisational poetry. Viewers are transported into this poetic landscape, guided by the projection of self, living things, nature, and the like. In recent years, Nakayama has performed at various events, including TEDxHaneda, Ars Electronica Fes (Austria), MUTEK Montreal, and the closing ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
